Epoxy Flake Floor

Flake epoxy floor,Gastonia,NC

What is epoxy flake flooring? It is a coating consisting of a layer of epoxy, a layer of vinyl flakes of different colors, and a layer of polyaspartic. What is the advantage of adding flakes to your floor covering? They create an effect reminiscent of granite, which is particularly appreciated for exterior surfaces. Also, this pattern makes dirt invisible, allowing you to wash your floor less often. This is one of the reasons why this type of finish is very popular for garages.

Easy of maintenance

If you have outdoor stairs, a patio or a garage floor made of rough concrete, you know how difficult this porous surface is to clean. Furthermore, stains are easily visible on concrete. An epoxy floor with flakes solves this problem, since mud, calcium, gasoline, oil, chemicals or sawdust that may be on the garage floor, for example, will blend into the pattern. You will feel more comfortable washing the epoxy garage floor or exterior surfaces less frequently and when you do, you will find that your new non-porous flooring can be easily washed with a mop, water and soap.

Harmony with the decor

Because epoxy flake flooring visually resembles granite, it blends well with the rest of your outdoor decor. For example, the exterior stairs, patio and pool surround goes well with the driveway, as well as the natural stones you may have on your property. Even the garage floor becomes more harmonious with the driveway.

How is an epoxy flake flooring made?

In order to create a flake floor, we start by carefully preparing the base surface. We pass the diamond polishing wheel several times, until all traces of impurity are removed and the texture of the concrete allows the product to adhere well. We then apply a coat of epoxy of the desired color. We throw the vinyl flakes in the air a little above the ground and let them fall back on the epoxy while still wet, in order to distribute the flakes evenly. We wait for the epoxy to dry, then we gently scrape the surface to remove the excess flakes and level the flooring. Finally, we apply a layer of polyaspartic, a product even more resistant than epoxy.

Note that it is possible to apply this type of coating on a plywood floor. Instead of polishing the surface with the diamond wheel, we apply self-leveling concrete on the plywood, in order to fill the cracks and cover the screw heads. We then proceed with the same steps: epoxy, flakes and polyaspartic. However, there are several specific criteria that must be met in order to proceed, starting with the thickness of the plywood. Contact us so that we can evaluate whether flake coating could be possible in your home.
